scrapbook

Discovered Lula Scrapbook today. Take a look.

It reminds me of all the time I spent on scrapbooks as a small girl - like, literally would pour over pages and stickers and paper cut-outs for hours. Clare and I were entertained by it for an amount of time I can only pine for these days.

The internet makes it so easy these days, but the pages sure don't smell like rubber cement....

Yes please!

art from trash

Jenn Reilly, a Portland cutie friend of mine, is the mastermind and curator behind the RiPPle Effect. RiPPle is a pretty inspiring annual art exhibit that showcases art created from the efforts of a massive Clackamas River cleanup. Art from trash, por que no! Though I wasn't able to attend the cleanup, a kind soul dropped a rusty, creaky mattress boxspring off on my front doorstep and I went to work. Only to an artist in training would consider such a product a gift.

You couldn't touch the thing without getting covered in river gunk rust. Yes, we'll call it that.
Check out the progress that was to follow...

Among many of the evening's highlights, a girl named Sam, who bid on (and won!) the pair of earrings featured above, approached me at the end of the night to introduce herself. We hit it off and know some of the same people, including the kids from Sticks and Stones. AND, as if I could be swooned by her any further, she then offered her stunning self as a model in the future. I've always had an affinity for girls with the name Sam.... I'm totally going to take her up on it.

Soldering, Setting, Drilling, Filing.... Addict

It's true! I can't get enough. Even find myself on a Thursday before a weekend out of town (to the Olympic Peninsula. going to be incredible) hesitating due to desires to create more.

Check out this sterling silver beauty.

We started with 16" gauge wire, pliers, a file, and a soldering torch. 7 hours later, voila! Going to take more pictures very soon. I also learned to make a solid clasp, which, as anyone who has ever lost a piece of jewelry knows, is invaluable.

Making things handmade can sometimes translate to a divine curse. You look around at things that are for sale and feel sick in your stomach with the knowledge of how simple a thing is to make yourself. The big screw you of today goes out to Tiffany's!

Broken Social Scene

How I love you. New album is out: Forgiveness Rock Record.

I've also been listening to a lot of their earlier stuff recently. Even found a concert poster from their February 2009 show that, when I met Wade, he had an extra ticket to. He also happened to have a crush on me at the time, score! Either way, find out more about Mike King Crash, a local Portland artist who does a lot of concert poster design. Sophie bought us a fabulous Yeah Yeah Yeahs poster of his for Christmas.

For your listening pleasure: Looks just like the Sun.

Street Art

Art fills the VOID!

Khao Man Gai's Food Cart on SW 10th and Stark - a taste to behold. The Taiwanese lady who started the cart was brilliant to focus on one simple meal; what they do best: chicken, rice, and soup. As you can read here, Khao means rice in Thai. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. And the sauce! Oh, the sauce.

A giant Dungeoness Crab swaying it's legs above the infamous Jake's Seafood. Although people knock on the food for not being to Portland quality standards, I had a lovely meal there once with momma, Hannah, and Clare - enjoyed the fish immensely. Should probably look into whether or not it's local Oregon fish. In my line of work, I could know these kinds of things...

I would define neighborhood agreements to be a definite form of street art. Although, I must criticize, this was taken at the Plaid Pantry and 28th and Burnside, mere blocks from my house, and nobody ever asked me...

Love this sign. Around the corner from my house, makes me giggle.
