"Krista finds inspiration in everything from the Manhatten skyline to the installations at the nearby Socrates Sculpture Park. Her love for jewelry began in elementary school, when she was given a pair of miniature fork and spoon earrings. She's been obsessed ever since".

I love her use of mixed metals and scoop/swerve designs. Get it, girl.

Sevan Bicakci

When I think of jewelry, I like to think BIG and BOLD. Check out the work of Sevan Bicakci, a Turkish jeweler extraordinaire. I love his use of mixed metals and that he uses diamonds but doesn't let them overshadow the raw color of the gemstones. Now this is what I'm screamin':


Apparently you can find his work in NYC, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, San Francisco, but his largest collection is displayed at Dubai-Wafi Mall and at the W Hotel in Istanbul.

my girl adriel is from the wild wild mid-west. She rocks the high-waisted jeans and spurred belt buckle and all and all, works it. Thinking about her today as she prepares for her interview at OHSU, and wanted to share some pictures of a Montana wedding she recently made an appearance in. These pictures are stunning...




I do realize that the side-point of this post is that if I ever get married, it's damn sure going to be in cowboy boots.

The beautiful Sarah Kate and Adam got engaged this weekend. The engagement story unfolds the way you imagine it would in a storybook (with an unexpected Hanson twist and more originality than any story book marriage I've read). But it was perfect. This local group of artisans, woodworkers & designers is blowing my mind (thanks for the tip, h). One thing I will say is that they go as far as to create wooden bowties: check out the madness at Sticks and Stones. Beyond that, I will allow their words to speak for themselves:

Our pieces are wood based and speak to the relationship between natural and man-made materials. Wood, fine metals, gemstones, leather and resin are all materials that you will see recur in our designs. To ensure comfort, durability and the finest aesthetic, all of our pieces are sanded by hand bringing the wood to its smoothest state. Each piece is then cured for three weeks in an oil blend that soaks into the wood and hardens, forming a shell. This protects your piece from the elements, and helps to maintain its original luster.

So many things to learn

Things I currently want to be engaged in and already a master of:

- the drums
- spanish
- jewelry mastery (especially working with silver)
- website design
- a hold on my next step
- yoga or tai chi of some sort
- owning a scooter

but I'm so tired. And ate too many chocolate covered espresso beans earlier, thus... yeah... the crash.

I've also been listening to a lot of their earlier stuff recently. Even found a concert poster from their February 2009 show that, when I met Wade, he had an extra ticket to. He also happened to have a crush on me at the time, score! Either way, find out more about Mike King Crash, a local Portland artist who does a lot of concert poster design. Sophie bought us a fabulous Yeah Yeah Yeahs poster of his for Christmas.
