Tid-Bits

Is everyone on vacation right now? Trying to make doctors appointments, meeting requests, and random errands has never been so tough. Maybe I should quit trying and spend every waking minute cooling off at the river.

I've collected a few images on my work computer that, in no particular order, are awesome to me. I receive the Design*Sponge email each morning and my favorite element is the Before/After. It makes me want to re-stain and re-paint and re-upholster everything in sight just 'cause so much of it comes out so damn cool looking. There is also a section where people fill in what they love most about their studios/homes. Now that my basement studio is close to completion, maybe I should post some photos about my favorite new hideaway in this world. Anyways, for those of you on vacation, enjoy. And for those basking in the heat, join me at the river!

This is my boy James and I. He's the best.

Oh, today!

We finish the move to the new house today. Lots of heavy lifting, low doses of sleep, sleeping in the middle of freshly painted rooms with all the windows open, dust sneezes, and squeezing in as much hang out time as possible. This marks my fourth abode in the Pacific Northwest; I think it's going to be a good one.

bound for glory

If you asked me the direct path between March and May, April would not be my first guess. As far as I know, it went by in a flash. I've been sticking to my task at hand, taking plenty of time to relax on the weekends, sleeping 8 hours a night, and there remains a huge smile slapped on this face. But still. Time is going by so quickly and it feels impossible to not let it whiz you by.

Alas, the sunshine is in full bloom and I made a grilled salsa this weekend that should make up for any and all. Pictures forthcoming.

I wanted to re-post this video I found by the Mumford & Sons on their Railroad Revival Tour with Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes. They are coming through the southwest by rail and if you live in those parts, you should check out the remaining shows.

The more that work has occupied my daytime brain, the more my dreams have felt like this scene.

movement

October, if I think carefully about it, is always this busy. Impending catch-up from summer, the rat race before the holidays when long dinners, too much travel and wine take precedence over all things productive, and something about the crispness of the air that calls people back to themselves and how they want to be spending their time. For me, it's been a combination. With both work and self gaining force on either side of lil' me, there hasn't been many spare moments (and the ones that have existed displace mad amounts of sleep).

The good news? So much on the horizon. The other good news? Coffee is our friend.

City of Colors

Link shared from an old HS friend. Reminds me of the instinct I had last fall while driving through southern, rural, seemingly ghostlike towns to sneak from town to town one night with cans of brightly colored paint and cover walls. Not all of the walls, but prominent ones. Like accent walls. Ones that, like these, would brighten the personality of the town just a bit. Of course, we would need artist Sarah Moffett to make them anything like these that are being constructed throughout Brazil.

See more pictures at Haas & Hans: Painting Brazil 34 buildings at a time. Really amazing stuff.

Amazing, eh? Who's with me?

Long Day

11:55 pm and I can feel the blood receding from my limbs as I type this. Just returned home from the coast with a volunteer and friend, Minda, who joined me on this evening's venture to Cannon Beach. I try to stick my toes in the sand with each trip but though the drive out was sunny and majestic, once we hit the coast it was rain rain rain. We stopped in a fireside cafe for seafood and a porter, took the excuse to eat slow and be 20 minutes late to the meeting.

It's true that I've recently renewed my vows with punctuality, but sometimes it feels good to be intentionally late.

Maybe I felt that freedom because of this donut I saw this morning.

It was, after all, a damn good Tuesday. Even had Thai food for lunch, what a treat. <3.
