Record low temperatures for May 4th. Shall we take the time to reminisce on the early bites of Spring that were so unexpected? The week that the cherry blossoms seemed like if they kept blooming they would burst.

Hannah turned 25 last Saturday, May the 1st. Adriel, Sophie, Hannah and I loaded in the car and set off for Hood River. It was a damn good time. AND, her and I both caught a trout.


The best story I heard all day was that in response to her being born at Noon, her Dad constantly reminds her that she made him miss lunch. Cuteness.

Savin' the pennies, killin' the turtles

Just read a disturbing article about 'what could have been' regarding the BP Oil Spill off the Gulf Coast. Barf.

Another worker familiar with the rig told the lawyers that the company had chosen not to install a deep-water valve that would have been placed about 200 feet under the sea floor. Much like blowout preventers, devices that are meant to seal leaks, this valve could have served as a cutoff of last resort in explosions, the lawyers said

If you read further in this NYTimes article, it states also that the rig was/(is?) drilling 2-4,000 feet deeper than they had/(have?) a permit for.

I have officially reinstated the search for environmental graduate programs.

So many things to learn

Things I currently want to be engaged in and already a master of:

- the drums
- spanish
- jewelry mastery (especially working with silver)
- website design
- a hold on my next step
- yoga or tai chi of some sort
- owning a scooter

but I'm so tired. And ate too many chocolate covered espresso beans earlier, thus... yeah... the crash.

I've also been listening to a lot of their earlier stuff recently. Even found a concert poster from their February 2009 show that, when I met Wade, he had an extra ticket to. He also happened to have a crush on me at the time, score! Either way, find out more about Mike King Crash, a local Portland artist who does a lot of concert poster design. Sophie bought us a fabulous Yeah Yeah Yeahs poster of his for Christmas.

Street Art

Art fills the VOID!

Khao Man Gai's Food Cart on SW 10th and Stark - a taste to behold. The Taiwanese lady who started the cart was brilliant to focus on one simple meal; what they do best: chicken, rice, and soup. As you can read here, Khao means rice in Thai. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. And the sauce! Oh, the sauce.

A giant Dungeoness Crab swaying it's legs above the infamous Jake's Seafood. Although people knock on the food for not being to Portland quality standards, I had a lovely meal there once with momma, Hannah, and Clare - enjoyed the fish immensely. Should probably look into whether or not it's local Oregon fish. In my line of work, I could know these kinds of things...

I would define neighborhood agreements to be a definite form of street art. Although, I must criticize, this was taken at the Plaid Pantry and 28th and Burnside, mere blocks from my house, and nobody ever asked me...

The weather here has been beyond inviting. A warm, crisp glimpse of what is to come: spring in the Pacific NW. Last Sunday, Wade and I decided to get out of town for a 'hike'. (Read: lots of coffee and an old playlist from his days of working in a south Colorado coffee shop). Anyways, we stumbled upon a graveyard from the early settlers of Mt Pleasant, on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge. Gorgeous. And so old.

I took a photography class at Atlanta's Skyline Cemetary in high school and I cite it for my photographic fascination with graveyards. Something so permanent and ornate, what's not to be fascinated in.
